Alaska Master Naturalist Program

The Alaska Master Naturalist Program is designed for teachers, non-formal educators, and anybody who is curious about the natural world, sharing that knowledge with others, and supporting conservation of Alaska's natural resources. Teachers can earn up to 3 CEUs.

Certification as a Master Naturalist is optional and involves completing the 11 course series, 40 hours of additional volunteer time, and attending an Eco-Region Workshop.

There are three payment options:

1. Early registration until March 15, 2016: Full 11 course series includes 45 hours of instruction and costs $450.
2. Late registrataion after March 15, 2016: Full 11 course series includes 45 hours of instruction and costs $500.
3. Individual Course registraion begins after March 15, 2016: 3 hour courses are $45 and 6 hour courses are $90.

Tuesday, March 29th 6 - 9 pm Day 1: Geology, climate and weather (3 hours)
Wednesday, March 30th 6 - 9 pm Day 2: Glaciers, soils, and permafrost (3 hours)

Alaska's Water and Aquatic Ecosystems

Saturday, April 23rd 10 am - 4 pm Day 1: Watersheds, water cycle, salmon, and estuaries (6 hours)
Sunday, April 24th 10 am - 4 pm Day 2: Aquatic macro-invertbrates, water quality, marine and freshwater ecosystems (6 hours)

Exploring Alaska's Animals

Tuesday, May 10th 6 - 9 pm Day 1: Mammals (3 hours)
Wednesday, May 11th 6 - 9 pm Day 2: Birds, amphibians, and insects (3 hours)

Exploring Alaska's Plants

Saturday, May 21st 10 am - 4 pm Day 1: Alaska's native plants and forest ecology (6 hours)
Sunday, May 22nd 10 am - 4 pm Day 2: Medicinal Plants and traditional use, invasives (6 hours)

Eco-Regions and Climate Change

Tuesday, June 14th 6 - 9 pm Day 1: Alaska's Eco-regions (3 hours)
Wednesday, June 15th 6 - 9 pm Day 2: Alaska's native peoples and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (3 hours)
Thursday, June 16th 6 - 9 pm Day 3: Climate change and Alaska (3 hours)

Change your mind? To drop a class contact us at least five days before the start of class and your fees will be refunded. Once a course has been offered no refunds will be allowed.
