Working with Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities Who Offend Sexually

This full day workshop addresses challenging issues faced by clinicians working with individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) who offend sexually. Along with a discussion of the characteristics of ID, the challenges for assessment and treatment are identified. We will also consider how to modify clinical approaches and adapt treatment materials in ways that benefit these clients.

Relationships & Sexual Expression by Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities Who Offend Sexually

This full day workshop focuses on the importance of healthy relationships for individuals with ID who offend sexually. The issue of sexual rights and assessing the capacity to consent to sexual activity are discussed. Issues also include the importance of fantasy in the process of forming healthy sexuality, and the types of romantic relationships many of these men develop. Relationship supports in the context of treatment programming are considered. Finally, how to support generalization of skills and maintaining treatment change are reviewed.

Workshop Cancellation Policy: Workshop cancellations must be received 7 days prior to the event to receive a refund. Refunds are processed in accordance with the merchant’s refund or cancellation policy. Refunds are also processed for credit balances on accounts, net of any amounts owed to the university. If a refund is due, payments made to the university by credit card will be credited back to the card up to the amount of the charge, subject to any applicable laws, regulations or agreements. Individuals paying with gift card or prepaid card should retain the card to preserve the ability to credit such card.
